The Tallest Cake in Africa

Objective

“Hold a cake exhibition to showcase our cakes”. We needed to conceptualize and create an unconventional way to display the client’s craft.
He had been in business for 12 years and wanted to create some buzz and publicity, so we also needed a strategy to get as many people as possible to see the display and talk about it.

Attendees: 3 days, 2,000 guests per day.

Outcome

A new record was set for the tallest cake in Africa. Event is still relevant till date, google it!
Mission accomplished!

What we did for the Tallest Cake in Africa Event

Triple Threat. Bake the tallest cake in Africa, hold a cake exhibition and break a record. We conceptualized the idea of The Tallest Cake in Africa and then sourced for a venue to exhibit it.

The venue needed to be high enough to accommodate the 28-foot cake and needed to have the necessary human traffic to witness the masterpiece. We chose the Silverbird Galleria in Victoria Island, Lagos, one of the largest shopping malls in the city.

The PR team had put together a campaign and everyone waited in anticipation to witness the new record to be set. We had human signs along the street announcing the details of the exhibition.
We later had a “shut-down party” where members of the public participated in cutting and eating of the cake to the backdrop of music provided by the DJ.
